All Time Top Popular Sixes in Cricket History: World's Most Popular Sixes

The greatest all-rounder to have played the game of cricket, Sir Garfield Sobers, made a historic achievement on August 31st 1968. Once described as a 'five in one cricketer' by Donald Bradman himself, Sobers became the first cricketer to smash 6-sixes in a single over in first-class cricket.

On March 16, 2007, South Africa’s Herschelle Gibbs became the first man in the history of international cricket to score six sixes in an over. The unfortunate bowler was Netherlands’ Daan van Bunge, who finished with figures of 4-0-56-0 after the carnage.looks back at that eventful day of the 2007 World Cup.

On this day in 2007, Yuvraj Singh smashed six sixes off an over against England in the World T20 in South Africa. It was the fourth time in the history of cricket that a batsman hit a six off each of the six balls of an over. Yuvraj has played commendably well in his career but his 6 sixes is the first thing that comes to our mind when we talk about him.

Exactly 31 years have passed since Javed Miandad smashed Chetan Sharma for a last-ball six to steer Pakistan to victory in the Austral-Asia Cup final in Sharjah. Pakistan needed four runs off the final ball to win the match. Miandad scripted a historic victory by smashing Sharma for a six to help his team lift the Asia Cup title. Miandad in his auto-biography 'Cutting Edge: My Autobiography' has also mentioned that six.

He wrote, "I knew that he would try to bowl a yorker, so I decided to stand just ahead of the crease.....poor Chetan Sharma."

Virender Sehwag - Brings Up His 300 With A Massive Six vs Pakistan 2004

The innings took only 247 balls and was the highest score at faster than a run a ball. Sehwag is the first Indian to score a triple century (300 or more runs), and has done so twice—309 against Pakistan in Multan in 2004 and 319 against South Africa in Chennai in 2008.

Shahid Afridi is not called Boom Boom for nothing, as he holds the record of hitting most number of sixes in ODIs. Afridi has smashed 351 sixes in his ODI career, 81 sixes more than he second on the list Sanath Jayasuriya.

In a Power Cricket ODI match between Australia and Rest Of World in Docklands Stadium, Melbourne, Australia, Shahid Afridi hit one delivery for a massive hit, which struck the roof.According to the rules for that game, when a batsmen hit the roof, he as well as team was rewarded with 12 runs. Shahid Afridi was the only batsmen to hit 12 runs off 1 legal ball.

Gayle's 175 not out is the highest individual score in all Twenty20 matches, while Royal Challengers' total of 263 is the highest by any team. This is only the third occasion a batsman has scored 150 or more in an innings - the previous ones were by Brendon McCullum (158 not out in IPL's opening game in 2008) and Graham Napier's 152 not out for Essex against Sussex in June 2008.
