Lenovo K3 "Music Lemon" is a sub-$100 smartphone made to compete with Xiaomi's Redmi series

Lenovo officially unveiled a brand new Android handset that should be available in China starting today. Called Lenovo K3 “Music Lemon” (hey, we've seen much weirder names), the device is part of Lenovo’s plan to counter Xiaomi and its hugely successful smartphones. Thus, the K3 offers pretty cool features at a very attractive price: only 599 CNY - meaning about $97.

The K3 (model number K30-T) runs Android 4.4 KitKat, and has specs that are a bit more appealing than those of Xiaomi’s Redmi 1S, including: a 5-inch 720p IPS display, LTE connectivity, 8 MP rear camera, 2 MP front-facing camera, Waves MaxxAudio sound, 1 GB of RAM, and 16 GB of expandable storage space. The handset is powered by a quad-core Snapdragon 410 processor clocked at 1.2 GHz, measures 141 x 70.5 x 7.9 mm, and comes with a 2300 mAh battery. Other than the yellow color, we’re not sure what the connection between the K3 and lemons is.

According to CNMO, the Lenovo K3 will be available only online - just like Xiaomi's smartphones - and it looks like it’s offered in China exclusively via JD, one of the country’s largest retailers. 

Lenovo may launch the K3 (or at least handsets similar to it) in other markets in the near future, but for now there are no official details about this. What do you think, is the K3 worth $100?
