I love independent women: Julia Roberts

BFT - Julia Roberts gets inspired by women who are determined to do the best for their families. The actress and her husband Daniel Moder have ten-year-old twins Hazel and Finn and seven-year-old Henry together. Julia loves being a mother, but juggling that with her career can be hard. That’s why she is in awe of women who manage to do just that, day to day.

‘Mothers who do what I do every day without the really great support that I have, or can have when I need it,’ she told British magazine Hello! ‘The women who struggle to keep the insurance paid; the ones who don’t just get not to go to work because they want to stay home with the kids. That includes my girlfriends who do this with joy and grace and with long and full jobs.’ Having appeared in huge movies such as Notting Hill and Pretty Woman, Julia doesn’t have to worry about money. Although asked what her biggest indulgence is, it was nothing that could be bought. ‘Time off. I know a lot of people can’t take time off and can’t even imagine it. When I have a day off, I spend it with my kids or my husband,’ she said. Much as she loves those moments with her family, Julia still enjoys working.

She feels lucky to have teamed up with some of the same people several times because it makes the whole shooting experience so much more fun.

‘I really do and I realise I have been quite blessed in that way because I’ve worked with several directors more than once,’ she explained. ‘And more than once is not enough for me. It’s nice to build relationships with your directors because they understand how far they can push you or how far you’re willing to go. You feel comfortable knowing they’ll reel you back in if you take the character to a place that gets bad or ugly.’ Julia recently starred in The Normal Heart, about the early days of the 80s HIV epidemic, which was helmed by Ryan Murphy who directed her in 2010’s Eat Pray Love.
