Meryl Streep Honored By President Barack Obama With Presidential Medal of Freedom

President Barack Obama gushed over the lovely Meryl Streep during a ceremony where he presented her with one of the nation’s highest honors. The best part was the POTUS admitted to being in love with the actress!

President Barack Obama, 53, was all smiles when he presented Meryl Streep, 65, with a prestigious medal on Nov. 24. The Commander in Chief awarded the actress with the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation’s highest civilian honor.

The President Praises Meryl Streep During Ceremony

President Obama isn’t ashamed to say he’s in love with another woman — Meryl Streep. The confession came when the POTUS awarded 18 medals during a ceremony in the East Room of the White House on Nov. 24.

But the best part of the ceremony was when the President made a honest confession. “I love Meryl Streep,” he told the packed room. “Her husband knows I love her. Michelle knows I love her. There’s nothing they can do about it.”

How sweet! We have to say, he has great taste, because we too love Meryl Streep.

The president went on to praise the Oscar winning actress by saying, “She inhabits her characters so fully and compassionately, saying it is the greatest gift of human beings that we have this power of empathy.”

He continued to tell everyone in the East Room that Meryl has a gift of helping others. “And off the screen as an advocate for women and girls, she uses that gift to help others write the stories of their choosing and to encourage greater empathy in the rest of us.”

President Obama then stated that Meryl is truly one of “America’s leading ladies.”

President Obama Awards 18 People With Medal

The Presidential Medal of Freedom is awarded to individuals who have made “meritorious contributions” to U.S. security, world peace or cultural endeavors.

Other famous medal recipients were Stevie Wonder, Tom Brokaw, Marlo Thomas, Isabelle Allenda and Ethel Kennedy.

During the ceremony, the president stated, “This is one of my favorite events. Once a year, we set aside this event to celebrate people who have made America stronger and wiser and more humane and more beautiful with our higher civilian honor.”
