Australian Liberal Party candidate sacked over links to porn star Sunny Leone

Victorian Liberal Party candidate SACKED after 'planning to bring a Bollywood adult film star to Melbourne' for an event.

The Victorian government is in damage control a week out from the state election after sacking a candidate whose campaign was set to include an adult film star.

The Liberal Party has disendorsed Nitin Gursahani as a candidate for the seat of Thomastown.

It was revealed on Saturday Mr Gursahani's family business, Kiren Australia, was involved in bringing Bollywood actress and adult film star Sunny Leone to Australia. The family business is co-hosting an event featuring Sunny Leone on the eve of the November 29 poll at a Toorak bar.

On Saturday evening a Liberal party spokesman said this "did not reflect the values that underpin our party" and Mr Gursahani had not been forthcoming about his business interests in the application process.

Mr Gursahani is the marketing manager of the company, which has business dealings in property, liquor and Bollywood events.
On its website, the company says it "supports and hosts various kinds of concerts and shows which are primarily focused towards the Bollywood industry".

Premier Denis Napthine was asked on Sunday whether he was embarrassed by the turn of events.

"The Liberal Party manages the selection of candidates, they manage the candidates, and if issues arise, we take immediate action and that's what we've done," Dr Napthine said.

"Labor has replaced five candidates in the last 12 to 18 months - these issues arise from time to time in election period.

"The Liberal Party, when these things arise, deals with it efficiently, effectively and strongly."

Labor's scrutiny of government spokesman Martin Pakula said the Liberal party was in complete disarray with its candidates, with Mr Gursahani the fourth Liberal candidate to be dumped.

Two candidates were replaced in August after homophobic, sexist and racist comments were aired. And earlier this month it was revealed by Fairfax Media that a campaigner had a past with a neo-Nazi group.

"There is something very odd going on inside the Liberal Party, I think their campaign is in disarray," Mr Pakula said.

He said the Premier needed to come clean on what he knew about the candidate.

Mr Pakula also attacked the Premier for saying Labor had lost more candidates.

Labor's candidate for Frankston, Helen Constas, was forced to step down earlier this year over workplace bullying allegations, but Mr Pakula said that was "an isolated incident".

Mr Gursahani is the second Victorian Liberal to lose his candidacy just days out from the 2014 poll.

Sydenham hopeful John Varano quit last Sunday over allegations he assaulted his former wife seven years ago.

Mr Varano denies the charges, which he says were dismissed by a US court. (The Age)
